Colonic Hydrotherapy ...
Sorry, What?
Yes, I am a Colonic Hydrotherapist with ten years experience as a therapist and fifteen years experience as a nurse. As a nurse I have been in many situations with clients and patients that involve doing personal things to them. One thing you will not feel in front of me is embarrassed. I am totally at ease with the process of giving someone a colonic. The hard bit is for you. Can you overcome your coyness about having it done? Why not try it. There is enough colon cancer in the U.K. to warrant having a good flush out of your system.
I have treated people who have been unable to go to the toilet for three weeks. They come to me feeling toxic, bloated, puffy in the face and depressed. There is no need to suffer like this. If you embrace the idea of clearing out your toxic load it could give you a new lease of life. Bad eating, obesity, diabetes and all associated illnesses are on the increase. While you are still being shy about having a small tube in your bottom do you know what is lurking in your colon?
Okay, it is a potentially embarrassing going to the toilet in front of a stranger, but I am a nurse so you will feel relaxed and relieved not humiliated. It is not really like going to the toilet anyway. You lie on a couch and the water floats in and out of your bowel and the waste is flushed into the toilet straightaway. You do not sit there straining and making a mess. The tube is inserted and you lie back, relax and let the water do the work for you. The water flowing in and out of the colon gets the muscles to work and release the waste. You do not need to do anything but let go and get rid of the old crap your system stores.
So are you ready to overcome your anxiety and hear what it is about and how important it is to flush out your bowel? The place where we dump all our toxic waste, our chewy meats, gluey breads, mucous producing dairy products and additives?
Are You Feeling Toxic?
Are you feeling sluggish, puffy in the face and unmotivated? Or do you have skin eruptions, headaches, feel depressed and have irregular bowel motions? If this applies to you, your bowel may need a good clear out. The therapy can reset your bowel clock and get you back to eating properly. It gives you the inspiration to stay away from the chocolate bars and processed foods, the triggers for your sluggishness and bloating.
Spring cleaning your body and improving your diet also has a wonderful effect on your psychological health. Memories and unhealthy patterns of behaviour are locked into our cells. Emotional issues surface when you detoxify. All the mystic religions cleanse and fast to purify thoughts and be nearer to God. When you detoxify, old injuries and emotional issues get worse for a few days then clear and then you start to feel and look great. Your skin is smooth, flawless and shiny. Deep cleansing by fasting and having a few colonics can shift a lot of the old 'crap' way of thinking. It takes you into a more productive phase in your life. A fabulous way to start the New Year.
It makes you feel positive and good about yourself when you are less toxic. Do you want to be clear headed, trim looking and empowered? Or full of crap, in 2010? (see seven day detox diet)
Why have a colonic?
It is a simple idea, so why not. I flush out your colon helping you to get rid of toxins and you come away feeling lighter, refreshed and clearer. It helps you lose weight, it does not hurt, you do not make a mess and I promise you I will not make you feel insecure.
Even if you do not have specific gut problems having a few colonics is beneficial because you never know what is lurking up there. If you feel stressed and emotionally upset it affects the function of the bowel. The solar plexus area and vagus nerve leading into the gut are affected by our emotions. Stress can bung us up or gives us diarrhoea depending on how we react. The bowel is called the second brain because it reacts to feelings and tension. The other more physical complaints I have treated over the years are:
● Constipation
● Diarrhea
● Indigestion
● Sluggishness
● Skin conditions
● Headaches
● Irritable bowel syndrome
● Sugar cravings (due to Candida Albicans overgrowths)
● Bloating, bad breath and body odours
Do you have any of these symptoms? You may need to consider colonics if you have a constant heavy feeling in your stomach, wake up feeling bloated and crave sugar. These are symptoms of poor bowel health. If you avoid going to the toilet at work, gobble your lunch, drink lots of coffee and very little water and always feel sluggish you have an underactive bowel.
An overactive bowel is reacting to stress and emotional changes, usually culminating in diarrhoea, wind pain and a knot or tension in the solar plexus. You can feel nauseous if you are blocked or not releasing properly as the flow is interrupted.
The only snag is, the idea of actually having a colonic, the worry of it being potentially embarrassing and well…. what on earth is it anyway? Let me set the record straight……
What is a colonic?
It is quite simply a cleansing of your bowel using water and herbs. Sterilized and filtered water flows into your bowel via a small tube into your bottom. Herbs are used to soothe the process and get the bowel moving and emptying. The water moves around the colon getting into all the pockets and crevices of the bowel that need clearing out. All the waste comes out via the tube and gets flushed away. You have the feeling that you are going to the toilet, which is good, because the water is stimulating the bowel to expel your waste.
Is it an unpleasant sensation?
It does not feel unpleasant it just feels a bit strange on your first visit because it is a new experience. The letting go feeling is actually very relieving, especially if you are coming for a colonic feeling bloated or suffering with your bowel.
Is it embarrassing?
It is not embarrassing, although it is very understandable that clients are nervous the first time they have a colonic. As a nurse I have developed a relaxed manner with people, so there is a minimum of embarrassment for clients. Clients worry about losing control but that does not happen, there is no mess or smells. All the waste gets flushed away and it is contained in an outgoing tube.
Preparation before a Colonic?
The day before a colonic it is best to avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks and foods you know make you bloated. On the day of the colonic eat lightly before and afterwards.
It is not necessary to be juicing or fasting before a colonic although the best cleanse is achieved after a fast when the bowel is not full of waste. (See my Seven Day Detox Diary).
How long does it take?
It takes about 45 minutes and I will have a chat with you first about any specific problems you may have and look at your diet if necessary.
What are the after effects?
You will feel lighter, less stressed and sometimes a little shivery but you can go back to work straightaway. Some people feel very hungry afterwards as the body is empty. It is a good idea to eat lightly for the rest of the day. Your body is well hydrated so it gives you a healthy glow and often a deep sleep that night. No need to worry about 'accidents'. All the waste from your colon is either expelled during the treatment or a few minutes afterwards when you sit on the toilet. I do not rush people out after the colonic so there is plenty of time to relax. You feel clean and clear headed.
How many colonics will you need?
If you are having minor symptoms and need to get your bowel back on track, two colonics within a few weeks of each other is a good idea along with making a few changes in your diet if need be. If you have long term problems with constipation or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, you may need to consider more treatments. I have a formula of herbal capsules that can be taken to regulate bowel movements and increasing your water intake can often make all the difference. Some clients with very specific problems have colonics every month with no ill effects.
Benefits
The benefits are many as the immune system is situated in the gut affecting overall health. If you are healthy digestively then your other organs will work better. Modern lifestyles often entail eating on the run, grabbing processed foods and working in heated environments. Often we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty. If the bowel is dehydrated, constipation, piles (hemorrhoids) and irregular bowel movements result. The benefits to treating yourself to a course of colonics are:
● Cleansing the bowel of toxic waste.
● Helping symptoms of Irritable bowel, constipation, headaches, bloating, bad breath, body odours, abdominal spasms, backache, fatigue, constipation.
● Exercising the colon muscles improving peristaltic action.
● Stimulating other organs to empty efficiently into the bowel.
● Aiding better absorption of nutrients and re-hydrating the system.
● Alleviating constipation which leads to less toxicity.
● Preventative measure for bowel cancer and the build up of plaque, allowing the colon to breathe.
● Rebalancing the gut bacteria levels after food poisoning, gastroenteritis or overgrowth of Candida Albicans.
● Psychological benefits of spring cleaning the mind and the body.
● Colonics give you a head start at detoxifying your body during a rest period while fasting.
